The value of a livestock guardian dog’s intelligence: part 2

Maya, at 2 years old, is proving to be a wise mentor for yet another LGD puppy. This time, it's Archer, 12 weeks.

Archer is doing well. And Maya is doing what she does. Reading the situation and responding in kind. First off, sheep etiquette. We’ll see what other lessons she has for him in days to come.

When a livestock guardian dog dies too young

Houdini, or Houdi, as we called him, was as loyal to us as they come and a fierce protector of our sheep.

Houdini, or Houdi, our 5-year-old Akbash cross LGD, was a godsend to our farm and will never be forgotten.

The value of a livestock guardian dog’s intelligence

Maya, at 2 years old, is the better version of me.

There is a lot of talk of intelligence with LGDs. I’m not sure how often people consider the value of discernment and ethics, within that intelligence. Maya has taught me that value.

We ‘bitches’ got this

Jael, 16-month-old Turkish Boz, and Maya, 2-year-old Kangal, are part of our farm's gal team.

The farm is being run completely by females at the moment. Three women. Two livestock guardian dog bitches. One border collie bitch. What I can say? We get stuff done.
